People
[acidfree:374 align=right title=”]Ah, yes, humans. The critters that walk around on this planet and tend to make life less comfortable for all of us (with very few exceptions — my family and friends are of course not on the list of people that suck
). From dumb politicians to excessively litigious con men, the world’s full of animated nuisances.
Stuff to be Thankful For
I’m likely to write at least one more touchy-feely, thoroughly sappy post like this before (or on) Thanksgiving day this year (apologies to folks who aren’t Americans — no intentional global cultural insensitivity going on here). If such doses of sappiness fill you with hate (I’ve heard it said that I rarely, if ever, speak of anything positive, so if you’re among those who believe that load of crap, you’d best just skip this entry and move right along to find more glowering grouchiness fountains to feed your hate machine with), go snag another article instead.
I moved to Florida in late April, leaving friends and family, and a good (and fun) job behind, to try something new. I landed here on my feet, though the bitch that convinced me to move out here in the first place did everything she could to crush my spirits once I arrived (from pulling the rug out from under me on that whole “dating” thing to parading old (and new) conquests around in front of me as often as possible). There Must Be Something in the Water
Friday night of course saw lots and lots of strange behavior from the Kelley’s crowd, but it carried over into Saturday at the flea market. It ties back into the “rude behavior” crap I notice in lots and lots of people here.
Just Whine Until You Get Your Way
Selling CDs, whether music, software, or karaoke, is risky business these days. The average consumer won’t buy something off your store’s shelves unless it’s brand new and shrinkwrapped.
No major retailer (or even small ones) these days will let customers bring back a CD for a refund once they’ve opened it up. There’s two major reasons for this: Read the full story...

Please Go Vote Tomorrow
Assuming you live in the United States, of course … the subject line says it all. Get up off ‘yer lazy arse, read up on the topics up for vote in your state and district, and get out there today to vote!
You undoubtedly have an opinion on assorted aspects of our rather damaged political system and the universally-derided poor performance of the current administration in charge of things. Whether you think the same party should stay in power or they need the boot, go vote so we all know.
If that won’t motivate you to vote, remember this: I’m a liberal, tree-hugging hippie (I wash my clothes with a hand-powered pressurized drum, for !@#$’s sake, and my next car purchase will be a Prius (a gas/electric hybrid)) geek with a big mouth, a lot of charisma, and a ton of ideas. And I’m going to vote today. Either you agree with my thinking (and you’ll vote along with me) or you’re scared to death of the idea of someone like me having any influence at all on the world around you (and you’ll jump up to vote to make sure my voice is canceled out by yours
).
I don’t care what motivates you to vote. Just please go do it.
I’d recommend specific people to vote for, but I wouldn’t want to get fucking sued for expressing an opinion.
Someday we’ll look back on this moment and plow into a parked car.

Behold, Pictures from Halloween 2006!
I finally uploaded some pictures from the Halloween night festivities at Kelley’s in a new photo gallery; have a look to see lots of costumes (including some from the costume contest) and assorted antics. There’s more coming as well from the Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando from a few weeks back; I just need to get those filtered & uploaded.
And no, you’re not going crazy; some of the shots are blurry. The camera’s beginning to show its age and isn’t focusing so well anymore
Captions/descriptions on the pictures are coming soon.
The worst is not so long as we can say “This is the worst.”

The Culture of Rude
Since I moved to Florida, I’ve actually gotten out and about far more often and been exposed to “the public” more than usual for me. I’m noticing some very disturbing trends that are seriously starting to bug me.
Read on for some examples. Read the full story...
