...and That's When the Wasp Bit Me

Heh. Saturday tried its best not to be a very good day for me Smiling The karaoke show went reasonably well (this was true for both days, with Sunday being a good deal smoother (and busier) than Saturday, but with no real major goofs or problems), though as expected more adults turned out to sing than kids (which made me a bit sad — lots of kids were there and they looked like they wanted to sing, but they were too shy to approach us and their parents said “no” when we invited most of them).

The day began on a very sour note, though, with the truck deciding it wasn’t interested in playing that whole “starting and running” game anymore. We got a lift from the owner of Starshine Karaoke (who was sponsoring the show) and kicked off the show, and came back to diagnose the truck. As we were looking under the hood to see what might be going wrong, a damned wasp stung my back (little bastard).

We ultimately called a tow truck for the deceased truck, and the guy who showed up checked something on a hunch and after a minute or two of fidgeting under the hood, the truck cranked right up and resumed running normally. We did notice it had a fairly dry/empty radiator, so we refilled the coolant and we’ve been watching for signs of leaks. The transmission looks like it’ll be the next thing to go, as it’s leaking a tiny bit of transmission fluid as the engine runs now.

In other news, Dreamhost (where Willfe.com currently lives) announced new hosting plans (that are about the same price but effectively double my available disk space and nearly tripled the bandwidth, not that the site is coming even close to hitting those limits Smiling), so I bumped everything up to that new plan. I’m also setting up a replacement photo gallery (going back to Gallery … go figure Smiling). I’ll be upgrading this site’s Drupal installation to Drupal 5.x sometime fairly soon too, so expect minimal-to-moderate breakage on the site as I muck with that.

“Real life” has kept me pretty busy lately, so I haven’t had much chance to post here (sorry about that Smiling). The site should get more attention in the coming week or so, though, so stay tuned!

Ugh, Drupal's Upgrade Path Sucks

…but I will cope with it anyway. Initial tests show me that the basic guts of the site can at least be upgraded, which is fine with me.

Upgrading Drupal is a complete and utter pain in the arse. I’m completely willing to accept this is partially my own doing for making (limited) changes to a few spots, but with the new Drupal 5.3 release covering those changes for me, they shouldn’t matter, and since I’m switching to Gallery anyway, if Acidfree doesn’t want to work/look right for me, I’m not too worried as long as it’ll still show the damned images when it’s asked to.

The upgrade will probably come over the weekend, and you probably won’t notice (unless you catch me during the outage/switchover).
