Site
Updated to Drupal 6.4
Well, that was less painful than expected. The site’s been upgraded from Drupal 5.10 to Drupal 6.4 (a major release change). The new views module … holy shit it’s just amazing
Anyway, I’ll probably notice any oddness before you folks do, but if anything weird crops up, leave a comment here or mail me at willfe@willfe.com.

Comcast's Reputation Is Well-Earned ... Not a Good Thing
I’m undoubtedly tempting the fates by complaining about the very service that’s hosting this site (heh — especially if any tech or other employee reads this, I’m boned), but it needs to be said anyway.

Landed in Tallahassee!
Woohoo! All our stuff’s here, we’re in the apartment, and everything’s a mess. But all the utilities are now activated, the site’s back online, and we’re taking a good shot at going all “normal” again. I still have the big Vegas writeup in the works, too. Stay tuned!

Boingy! Boingy! Boingy!
If you noticed (or continue to notice) sporadic connectivity problems to willfe.com, fear not, faithful reader! I’ve just moved the desktop from my old apartment to a temporary landing pad and DNS changed. Stuff’s catching up. Connectivity here should be pretty stable, so things should go back to normal until the big move in a few weeks. Then there’ll be another outage, then all happy again.

Mail Issues Resolved, New Users Please Read
If you happened to sign up for a new account recently here, you probably didn’t get the e-mail the site claimed you’d be sent because of a strange bit of misconfiguration between my server and Google Mail’s servers. For once, it actually seems like the goof was on their end. That, or postfix has suddenly gotten even more paranoid about DNS name resolution for MX records (smtp.gmail.com turned into an alias for the real server, instead of actually being the server, or configured for round-robin).
Anyway, the mail queue, such as it is, has been quickly clearing out now and mail’s finally being sent as it should be. I’m finally getting notifications for all the commentary going on at Your New Geek: Care and Feeding Guide, so anybody who actually signed up for an account here should finally be getting that mail so they can actually finish their account setup.
Sorry about that, everybody!

Back From Tallahassee
We’ve returned from Tallahassee, Florida, having successfully found a good apartment to hurl ourselves into (we decided on Banyan Bay in case you’re curious), and with my friends surviving the ordeal that is Florida State University’s (mandatory) orientation program. In honor of my buddy Shannon formally joining Florida State University’s Class of 2012, I’ve updated the site’s theme to use the school’s colors. Yeah, I know the logo doesn’t match, but trust me, it looks better than the green one did. I’ll work on finding a better graphic for the corner logo in a day or two
Congratulations one more time, Shannon, for your achievement in getting into the university!

Yikes, Looks Like I Forgot!
Wow, it’s been over two weeks since I posted anything here; whoops. There should be some time coming up in a few days to throw some rather good content out here, but for now, I’m busy busy busy and don’t have much time to devote to new content. There’s stuff in the works, though.

Willfe.com/net/org Domain Name Transfers in Progress -- Possible Bumps Ahead
I actually began the process of migrating my domains (willfe.com, willfe.net, and willfe.org) over to a different registrar that supports dynamic IP addresses in their DNS service last week, but because of a screwup at the current registrar (sigh … so nice of their “protected domain services” to “forget” to forward mail to me…) I had to cancel that transfer and start it again, but this time the confirmation mails actually arrived and so the move is officially in progress.
I’m told that the registrar switch doesn’t actually kill anything in DNS but I don’t completely trust this; it is entirely possible that the site, or mail to it, or the domain itself might temporarily vanish if something goes wonky. Because we live in a world occupied by humans, something is likely to go wonky
Consider that fair warning that there might be an outage over the next couple of days.

Yeesh ... Change One Little Config Value and It All Goes Wonky
Right, sorry, my nearly-nonexistent readers, for the outage this afternoon/evening. I made one tiny little change in my server’s Apache configuration:
ServerName willfe.com
…which proceeded to completely piss it off for reasons I will likely never fully comprehend. I’d normally never admit that, but since changing the directive to read
ServerName willfe.org
totally fixed the problem, I am officially confused, and it made one of my eyeballs fall out.

Willfe.com Adds Pingback Support
Jumping on the bandwagon about 3 years too late (heh) I’ve installed the Pingback module into this Drupal site to enable Willfe.com to receive and send pingbacks. With a bit of luck the installation has actually gone right (it seems to have gone just fine) and things are running smoothly. This post is mostly just being made to test the thing and to provide the very first Pingback from Willfe.com — to the module author’s post about the module (very recursive, I know
).
Edit: Heh. Figures. I broke something
The module runs but reports an error (technically a “warning,” but the warning essentially says “sorry, buddy, this ain’t happening today!”) when it sends a pingback. I’ve asked the author for a whack from his clue-by-four for guidance
Edit 2: It’s fixed
In fact it wasn’t actually broken; the site I was trying to ping was having issues. All is well. Thanks to the module author for getting back to me on this issue!
